LA Wolves player leaps for the ball during the final

The Story

In the summer of 1967, as the world was buzzing with the sounds of The Beatles and Monkees dominating the charts, a group of visionary entrepreneurs including LA Lakers owner Jack Kent Cooke, formed the United Soccer Association.

Teams were imported from Europe and South America to play under the banners of North American cities. These soccer pioneers travelled from coast to coast aiming to plant a flag for the Beautiful Game – a journey that ended with the LA Wolves and Washington Whips contesting one of the greatest finals ever seen on American soil, wowing fans and lighting the spark for Soccer in the USA.
